Nepal Visa Information
A visa is required to enter Nepal. One can get a visa at the Royal Nepalese
Embassy or Consulate or at the airport upon arrival. Children under 10 years
need not pay any visa fees. Two passport sized photos are mandatory for visa
on arrival.

Wildlife
in Nepal
Nepal's first and most famous national park is situated in the Inner Terai lowlands
of Chitwan. Covering an area of 932 sq. kilometers the park includes hilly areas
of the Shivalik Range covered by deciduous trees. Parts of the park are floodplains
of rivers Narayani, Rapti, and the Reu, covered by dense tall elephant grass,
forests of silk cotton, acacia and Sisam trees. Royal Chitwan National Park
was officially established in 1973 and included as World Heritage Site in 1984.
The park in Chitwan is shelter to the last endangered Asian species like the
one-horned rhinoceros and the Royal Bengal tiger.
Popular Holy Sites of Nepal
The Balmiki Ashram is situated in a forest on the banks of the Tribeni river,
at the south - western corner of Royal Chitwan National Park. It was a retreat
used by the great Hindu sage, Balmiki. This is where Sita is said to have lived
with her two sons, Labha and Kusha, after separating from Rama. Various statues
were unearthed in this area during an archeological excavation I the late 60's.
Recently, a temple of Sita has been built here.
People of Nepal
The population of Nepal was recorded to be about 25 million as of July 2002.
Eighty-six percent of Nepalis follow Hinduism, while eight percent follow Buddhism
and three percent follow Islam. The population comprises various groups of different
races which are further divided into different castes.
History of Nepal
Nepal has always been an independent and sovereign country with glorious history,
culture and tradition that date back to time immemorial. Before the campaign
of national integration was launched by king Prithvi Narayan Shah, the Great,
the Kathmandu Valley was ruled by the Malla Kings, whose contributions to art
and culture are indeed great and unique.
